How did it get to be 6pm already?

One of those days.

  • Spent the morning tweaking and adding photos, photos and then more photos to a presentation I have to give at Sussex University on Wednesday. Didn’t finish. Finding the right image takes too bloody long sometimes.
  • In the middle of that, get the image I mentioned earlier. Jaw literally drops and hangs open for about five seconds. Stunning….
  • Lunch with Jen where we both vent about different things… and talk about this blog, as it happens.
  • Back to finalise and post details about the ‘Hero Pass’ for the MiniCon, then I duck into a meeting about said MiniCon. As the words come out of my mouth I keep thinking “So much to do, so much to do, so much to do….”
  • Get back to my desk to find Forumites frothing about not being able to get ahold of Hero Passes, as the phone at Omega Sektor is ringing off the hook. Try to calm them down.
  • And suddenly, it’s 6pm.

“Day ain’t over yet….”

Some days my job is awesome

Quite a few days, actually… but then some days I get things like this in my inbox:

DTWT Andie Tong pin-up

Even being a small part of making that happen… well dang, I feel pretty damn good.

(It’s another image for our sketchbook, by the way, by the amazingly, stupidly talented Andie Tong. Ta Andie!)

The day before yesterday

So, Chris/Aero and I went up to Birmingham on Friday to scout out Omega Sektor, where we’ll be holding the upcoming MiniCon over Easter Weekend.

Uneventful journey up – we’ve both driven the Brighton-Birmingham run so many times now, the only question is how to find what we need within Birmingham itself. It was the first time I’d actually explored Birmingham city centre on foot, and I was surprised to find, a bit like London, that loads of stuff is really close together. Our hotel was about three minutes walk from the Bullring (the major shopping centre) and Omega Sektor itself, so that was all damn handy.

Omega Sektor is pretty much what I expected, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s massive, spread over two floors, with about 400 gaming PCs, consoles and so on. They seem to have done a great job kitting the place out, and it’s wired to capacity with plasma screens everywhere, two massive projector screens, etc etc.

We’re really happy with it, and hopefully you lot will be too.

The day after the last one

Get in with a nagging feeling that no matter how much I do today, it won’t be enough.

  • Pass by several members of our localisation team moving across the courtyard to the other building we take offices in. Realise this is a prime chance to get footage for our ‘Year at NCE’ Documentary, and send Chris to tape them moving.
  • Check the thread I posted yesterday about the MiniCon; there are 37 responses and lots of questions, so I start to answer. It takes a while so I have to be short.
  • Get email from Andrew Wildman pointing me to Doug Braithwaite’s sketchbook contribution. It’s great.
  • Concerned that I’ll forget important stuff, I scribble down the six or so things I need to do today…
  • … and then run off to a local coffee shop for some extensive brainstorming of the MiniCon. We talk for about 90 minutes, and then I have to return to the office to get anti-cold drugs in my system.
  • Lunch is soup at my desk and movie trailers.
  • I have five pages of notes from the MiniCon chat that I need to get into a Word .doc, so I type fast.
  • Two pages into it, I get an email with questions for our interview with Titan Gaming Radio at 3pm. I try to read them over but I’ve got to keep going.
  • To my surprise, the .doc’s done by 2:30. Chris and I puzzle a bit over TaskForce: Omega requirements and potential prizes.
  • 3pm – sit down for a 90 minute chat with Titan Gaming Radio, which is pleasant enough.
  • Get back to my desk and realise I’ve done none of my to-dos, and I have an urgent email requiring me to brief an artist… right now.
  • Get the brief done by 5:30 or so, but still end up in the office at 7pm. Strike five out of six to-dos off the list.

Still can’t believe I have to go to Birmingham tomorrow. No offence to Birmingham; just such short notice.
