Friday feelings

Oooh, touchy feely feelings.

Alright, I’m not going to induce a gag reflex – at least I hope not. I could, but I won’t. Suffice to say since Wednesday at 2:30pm or so, it’s been an emotional rollercoaster, or emo-coaster as I had to abbreviate for the benefit of Twitter. Read the rest of this entry »

Actual status report

So, now I’m a bit more sober – which apparently was all that was keeping me asleep – a word.

I can’t say too much; I don’t want to get myself in unnecessary trouble. However; 12 hours ago (exactly, if my clock’s right) all of NCsoft Europe got ‘the word’ on whether we’d be keeping our jobs, or whether we’d be ‘at risk’ of losing them. I was – am – ‘at risk’, which basically leaves the ball in my court in terms of what I do next with my job. Option A: walk away with redundancy (ie, money). Option B: er, stay for a bit, then walk away. I’m pretty sure right now I’ll be taking Option A.

I can’t comment on much beyond that. I am fine (except unable to sleep). More, maybe, later, or earlier, or whatever depending on where you are and whether you’re staring at a screen in the middle of the night.

PS: Made me… well I’d say ‘LOL’ but it ain’t that funny, but ‘hey’ to everyone who arrived here from Massively, but more specifically, the COH Forums. Hey guys! Love y’all. Highest traffic, I’m pretty sure, since I started the blog. Oh feel the irony. Or is that just pain? Can’t recall.

Status report

Last week the webserver TTBM is hosted on imploded. Exploded. Whatever, it failed. The fact that it had been persistently up and down for the last six months was probably a sign of problems, but hey, what do I know, I’m just a customer.

As a result of the server meltdown, I lost a few comments, and also a few odd files here and there – mysteriously, including all the pictures in my recent UK Games Expo post. I’ll get around to fixing that.

I’m currently looking into alternative hosting; I may move, may not, just depending on how much hassle it might be (and if they give me any good reasons to stay).

Anyway, I’m certainly sorry for the outages and hopefully the situation will improve….

NCsoft’s panel at PAX

By complete coincidence – I was looking at Aion-Welten.de, who’ve been driving traffic this way recently (Hello, Germans!) – I found a video of NCsoft Interactive’s panel presentation at Penny Arcade Expo, which is embedded below. This first part deals mostly with Aion, and is a good general overview of the game.

You’ll quickly see that this has been recorded by a fan in the audience, so excuse the quality. Come to think of it, that leads me to ask your opinion: wouldn’t you like to see this stuff recorded and presented officially through NCsoft channels?

Indeed, perhaps this is something my team should be doing (given we’re doing so much other video stuff). Hmmmm? Do let me know in comments. The more of you who want it… the more likely it’ll happen for future events.

Hint. Hint. Read the rest of this entry »

Quest for GC: Behind the Scenes, Part 5

When I originally started writing these, I thought I’d be finished in this part. Clearly I can’t count: at a rate of two episodes per part, with eleven episodes to talk about, I won’t be finished until part six.

The fact that I can’t do simple division won’t be a surprise to my mother, but it is a continuing source of disappointment to my secondary school maths teacher, Mr Chenery. Sorry, sir. Read the rest of this entry »
