Back off man. I’m a scientist.

This side of the morning

Although of course, it’s afternoon as I write this. (TTBM Points for anyone who can identify the subject title without Google.) Really hard to put things into words today, but I’m a writer, dammit, so I’m going to try my best. Read More »

Good afternoon, good evening and goodnight

As you can tell, the jetlag might still be affecting me somewhat. Up until about 12:30pm yesterday I earnestly believed it was Monday. No really. Just ask my co-workers.

So, back from hols as of Wednesday; elongated, crazy time-stretched return of course, not helped by my passing out at 9:30pm on Wednesday night (”I’m just going to nap for 15 minutesssszzzzzzzz….”) and waking up at 3am ready to go put in a full day’s toil. Yesterday was mostly filled with me staring at a screen, blinking, and stabbing cautiously at the Delete key as I got through the email backlog.

Today, hopefully, we start to get back to normal.

Lots coming up as I put the pedal back down to the metal, with the first up being, probably, Bristol Comic Expo and then Podcast 2.5. Some cool stuff being announced about Bristol today, too - keep an eye out.

All work and no play, etc

For the (very) few of you who’ve been reading for a while, you might have noticed the lack of ‘Day Today’ posts recently. (For those who are new, check the archive; I’ll wait.)

All back? Good. Just wanted to say I still want to do those, but time has been against me this week. In fact, work has been preventing me from blogging about work! Ah, the irony. (Or is that just sarcasm? DAMN YOU, Alanis, for confusing me forever!!)

Anyway, I spent a large part of tonight answering interview questions for a certain site, so that’s eaten up blogging time; as for work, it’s been a combination of “Oh, I’m back after my rest, this is good” and “Oh, I have loads of stuff to still clean up after the event” and “Oh, I have loads to do before I go on holiday and no time to do it oh crap oh crap”.

So that’s nice. Anyway. I’m still gonna do the MiniCon Sunday and Monday wrap-up posts, verily - even if they doth slay me, and… eh, I’m not promising anything else.

Leave me a comment. Tell me what you want to know so I can talk about something else, and not mistakenly talk about something you want to know.

Still sick (but at work)

Came in, because frankly I’d rather be ill at work than ill at home. That, and I have too much to do.

First thing that happened this morning: turn around to the guy behind me, he tells me I look like shit, I say I’m ill, and then he goes one better by saying he spent part of the previous week coughing up blood… and that he is allergic to practically all antibiotics.

Suddenly I feel like I should be sitting here in a hyperbaric chamber for his sake.

In the interest of living up to the category of this post, I should also mention that I’ve been on a continuous cycle of water-toilet-water all day, like I’m a human camel… and that I have a small pile of used tissues in front of me. From my nose.

Suddenly, sick

I’m ill. Bleh.

Throat’s sore, nose is blocked, achy. I know I got it from my partner in crime, Spaff, so it’s virulent - he was starting to come down with it yesterday.

As my wife will tell you with much relish, I don’t get sick too often, and when I do, it’s usually not that serious - in other words, I’m back on my feet quickly. Whatever I’ve got here (some sort of cold) is made worse, though, by a lingering eye infection which just won’t quit and a couple of other long-term ailments afflicting this ageing body.

So yeah, as I sit here with a growing pile of tissues, having just swallowed down some horrendous ‘grapefruit seed extract’ concoction and blinking periodically as my eye weeps, I feel fairly sorry for myself.

Boo-hoo.
