Limited Edition 3 of… a lot

Spent a very enjoyable couple of hours over the weekend blabbing about comic books, movies, games and so on with John and Matt for Limited Edition, episode 3.

Somehow John managed to cut our two hours of chat down into a relatively svelte 90 minutes, so if you fancy a listen head on over to the Limited Edition site for more info, and to download.

Lots of work related stuff happening right now - both in my actual work and in potential, possible work. When/if any of it breaks I’ll let you know.

In the interim, I’ll try to come up with a few more things to say around here, but honestly, life’s keepin’ me busy….

Limited Edition… featuring me

(I almost wrote the subject line ‘Wearing Yellow Spandex’ but I get enough random weird search queries as it is…)

Limited Edition, the new podcast from John ‘Shuttler’ Nicholson, ex-host of TabulaCast, and his partner in crime Matt, has moved on to Episode 2 - and said episode has a brand new voice in the mix, namely me! Yes, after hearing episode one of the show I thought I could help these ‘babes in the wood’ on the subject of comics and superhero-type stuff, so I volunteered my services.

Did I completely take over? Are they regretting ever asking me to appear? Did I vent my spleen on the subject of NCsoft? Even worse, did I spill precious secrets about Issue 13??? Read More »

Four - no, five new podcasts

In the heady rush of content from Games Convention, you may have missed that we slung out four new episodes of the Official NCE podcast. All of them were recorded live off stage, so you’ll find that there’s German and English in there (translations from the crowd to the stage, and then back).

As well as myself yabbering about getting into games, we also have the Aion community team, Izzy and Mike from ArenaNet and Tom Potter from Destination Games to listen to. Pretty good line-up really. You can listen to all four of ‘em online, subscribe, get the MP3s etc all right here.

Credit goes out to Chris for editing these at real short notice.

I said five podcasts though… and the fifth is a new kid on the block. John AKA Shuttler of TabulaCast fame, along with his co-host Matt, have moved on from talking about Tabula Rasa to talking about everything superhero - whether it’s comics, movies or indeed City of Heroes. I expect we gave ‘em something to talk about yesterday.

Anyway their new ‘cast is called Limited Edition, although confusingly the site’s at yellowspandex.com (and yes, I get the reference). You can grab episode 1 right here, and subscribe through the usual methods.

Podcast, episode 3 - Tabula Rasa talk

I almost forgot! This went live on Friday after a few delays. If you’re fed up of listening to the sound of my voice, then this is the episode to download; I’m hardly in it!

Yep, this time out I hand over the MIC to Avatea, who talks for quite a while with Starr Long, Tom Potter and Victor Meinert - all of Destination Games, who in case you didn’t guess from the title are responsible for Richard Garriott’s Tabula Rasa. If you’re a TR fan you should give it a listen - and even if you aren’t, quite frankly… I mean otherwise why am I making all this effort??

As always you can listen to the podcast via a live stream, subscribe to it, or download the MP3 and do whatever you like with it in the comfort of your own home. There’s even a transcript! So enjoy.

Oh, and I’d love to hear (as always) what you’d like to see in upcoming episodes.

All quiet, except for the talking

I know it’s been a bit quiet around here; sorry about that. A hell of a week last week for all sorts of reasons, least of all my continuing power cut / electricity supply problems, which usually affected my wifi.

In the meantime, if you’d like to hear Something What I Did, a new episode of Tagline: a movie podcast is online, with my brother and I talking (mostly) about The Incredible Hulk, Indy and other geeky movies. You can listen, subscribe, etc over at the Tagline site.

Speaking of podcasts, we’re really close to locking Episode 3 of the Official NCE ‘cast, too.

Quick questions

A quick one in the possibly five minutes I have before my hosting goes offline again (was intermittent first thing this morning which led to another snarky email to their support; when I feel it’s steady enough to migrate, I’m migrating…). So, some questions for you… some community interaction, as they say:

  • This seems interesting (and fairly popular). Should we be doing something similar, or similar-but-different? I don’t use the ‘Royal We’ here, by the way…
  • Next show that we’ll be appearing at in the UK (right now) is Memorabilia in November, so we have some planning time. For those of you who’ve attended before and seen us (2006/2007), what should we do differently?
  • For those of you who haven’t been, what would you like to see there (or at other shows) that would make you come along? We don’t have the sky as our limit, but I’m open to all suggestions.
  • What’s your wishlist for future podcasts? We have ideas for Episodes 4 and 5, but beyond that….

That’ll do for now. Hopefully you’ll be able to reply…!

New podcast (or two)

Episode 2.5 of the Official NCE Podcast is now online for you to listen to, download as an MP3, or even subscribe to in your favourite RSS reader (now including iTunes). Tell ‘em I sent you.

Wait; that’d be telling me I sent you, so… don’t.

This installment is mostly left-over material from the MiniCon, including a long chat between Alex ‘GhostRaptor’ Weekes and I about Task Force: Omega, and a fun get-together between Alex, some random players and Aero just gabbing about the weekend in general. P’raps you’re in there.

On the flip side, if you can handle a non-BBFC-approved 18-rated podcast about movies, you can go listen to Tagline - the irreverent, infrequent podcast my bro and I put together. I’ve had two people tell me the latest episode was “funny” in the last two days, and only one of them was my wife, so I’d take that as a recommendation.

Some random news and links

More Comic Expo recap stuff is coming; will probably be three posts now as I’m such a long-winded bugger. Just wanted to drop a few things here.

News-wise…

‘Podcast 2.5′ as we’re calling it, is about done and should be online very soon I hope. It’s mostly more recapping of the MiniCon, including chats with some TF Omega teams and a long talk between Alex ‘GhostRaptor’ Weekes and me. Who has a blog, if you haven’t seen.

Speaking of MiniCon, the first official video for it went live yesterday… go see it on Blip.tv. (Yes, there will be a downloadable version soon.) There’s a lot more footage and a lot longer video coming.

Speaking of the podcast, Episode 3 is also half-way done already because we did an interview with a couple of the guys from the Tabula Rasa team. I wasn’t in on it but Chris tells me it’s real good.

In the (probably extreme) off-chance that you aren’t frequenting the EU COH Forums, just FYI, all of the sketches from Bristol are now live on Flickr, along with a fine selection of ‘official pictures‘ too.

Also: I’m playing with this. You might like to play with it too. Or offer me suggestions on what to do with it.

Some random linkage…

Adam Martin, who’s one of our top programmers in the fledgling internal NCE development team, spoke at ION 08 yesterday, on one of his favourite subjects - MMOs and Web 2.0. Massively did a write-up which makes it sound really interesting; I’d say it’s worth a read.

Adam will also be speaking at the MMOG-fest thing that I’m going to be at in early June at Staffordshire University, so if you wanted to come quiz him, that’s a great opportunity to do so.

If you’re in a reading mood, this post on MMOG Nation has some great ideas about guilds and how to keep guilds alive. It’s sort of aimed at developers but you might be interested regardless.

That’ll do. Work calls!

Good afternoon, good evening and goodnight

As you can tell, the jetlag might still be affecting me somewhat. Up until about 12:30pm yesterday I earnestly believed it was Monday. No really. Just ask my co-workers.

So, back from hols as of Wednesday; elongated, crazy time-stretched return of course, not helped by my passing out at 9:30pm on Wednesday night (”I’m just going to nap for 15 minutesssszzzzzzzz….”) and waking up at 3am ready to go put in a full day’s toil. Yesterday was mostly filled with me staring at a screen, blinking, and stabbing cautiously at the Delete key as I got through the email backlog.

Today, hopefully, we start to get back to normal.

Lots coming up as I put the pedal back down to the metal, with the first up being, probably, Bristol Comic Expo and then Podcast 2.5. Some cool stuff being announced about Bristol today, too - keep an eye out.

NCE podcast - subscribe now!

Hey, as I said I’d mention it - you can now subscribe to (deep breath) The Official NCsoft Europe Podcast. Just click here and Feedburner will do the rest.

Even if you’ve already listened to the first two episodes do me a favour and subscribe anyway - we can keep track of subscriber numbers that way. And of course you get the latest episodes conveniently delivered to you, in digital format, like a special delivery by a postman of the future.

Also, while I have you here: how cool was this? (No, I don’t do birthday parties. Except in person. And then I dress like a clown. And charge by the second.)
