So today was… kind of busy.
Fast, slow, fast. In that order.
- In early because I wanted to get some stuff done, knowing that I had to leave at 11:30 or so.
- I’m on the phone with Omega Sektor as I’m making toast and coffee, checking on Hero Pass sales. They’re still brisk, but both of us are getting confused by the passes we have on reserve – some for Omega Sektor regulars, some for our incoming European players.* We decide we have a few passes left.
- Welcome back Spaff, who’s been ill for the last couple of days. He starts to move his desk, which we’ve been waiting to do for several weeks. He’s only in for today though. With him at my back – literally – we start to feel like more of a cohesive team again.
- Do a last minute rehearsal of my presentation for Spaff, who approves. It’s 12 minutes long, with 70 slides.
- Leave the office and take the bus up to the Sussex University campus to do said presentation for an audience of (mostly) second years. It goes well, but I’ll post about that separately.
- Back on the bus, experience a moment’s panic when I’m sure we’re heading towards the countryside. Turns out there’s a really rural campus just over the road. We head back to Brighton soon after.
- Back in the office just after 4, and work flat out until 7:30, mostly dealing with the Forums, writing up our ‘official NC Crew Sidekick’ program, and listening to the near-final mix of the podcast.
- Oh, break at 5pm to chat to an enterprising Forum member who wants to work with us. We come to an arrangement that I hope will work out for all….
- Come home, re-check Forums a few times while watching TV. Eventually realise it’s kind of a waste of time, and write this instead.
Tomorrow: more busy-ness.
* For anyone thinking we’re screwing people over, consider the players (who might not speak English) and the staff of Omega Sektor (who might not speak anything except English). It’s easier all round, with phone booking.
How did it get to be 6pm already?
One of those days.
- Spent the morning tweaking and adding photos, photos and then more photos to a presentation I have to give at Sussex University on Wednesday. Didn’t finish. Finding the right image takes too bloody long sometimes.
- In the middle of that, get the image I mentioned earlier. Jaw literally drops and hangs open for about five seconds. Stunning….
- Lunch with Jen where we both vent about different things… and talk about this blog, as it happens.
- Back to finalise and post details about the ‘Hero Pass’ for the MiniCon, then I duck into a meeting about said MiniCon. As the words come out of my mouth I keep thinking “So much to do, so much to do, so much to do….”
- Get back to my desk to find Forumites frothing about not being able to get ahold of Hero Passes, as the phone at Omega Sektor is ringing off the hook. Try to calm them down.
- And suddenly, it’s 6pm.
“Day ain’t over yet….”
Yesterday
All my troubles, etc.
- Futzed around for the early morning, clearing the inbox, etc.
- Trip to favourite local coffee hangout to review a presentation/pitch for our potential biggest project of the year. Spaff is working on it, and it looks good, but he’d hit a wall. I’m happy to say we removed it. (I also realised at this point he wasn’t kidding about being ill.)
- Lunch and a little bit of City of Heroes, running my Martial Arts/Regeneration Scrapper this time. Damn those Freakshow!
- At some point, Aero jams headphones onto my head and I listen to myself in the first edit of the podcast. He’s done a great job of taking my many, many takes, removing all the swearing, and making me sound intelligible.
- Not long after, realise a meeting with the Community team is scheduled much earlier than expected. We re-present our ‘What does Creative Concepts do?’ presentation, and answer questions on bandwidth (Too little), current projects (Sshhh) and delivery times (when it’s done). Goes fine.
- Back to the desk and crack into Keynote on the MBP for the third version of the same presentation, for the third party in our secret RL project. I finish just before 6pm…
- … in time for Aero to install the Training Room on my PC, allowing us to rubberneck at the Manticore-Sister Psyche wedding. Because of our ‘special’ status, we end up standing around after the post-ceremony smackdown has taken place. It’s a bit surreal, but makes for good screenshots.
And it’s the weekend… relax.
Valentine’s Day
Another day, another dollar.
- Polished up the presentation I needed to give at 11:30. Couldn’t find pictures of certain developers to go in it. (I haven’t met many developers who love to get their photo taken. With the possible exception of Dave Perry.)
- Gave the presentation; got no questions at the end of it, so I just said “Let’s do it!!” Hence – we are.
- Out into Brighton to get a Valentine’s Day card… yes, I know.
- Back for a bit of City of Heroes; levelling my Claws/Super Reflexes Scrapper. ‘XP Smoothing’ is workin’ out just fine.
- Back into the hotseat for another bit of recording for our podcast… talking to the Community Team Leads for Guild Wars and Tabula Rasa. We get each segment after a couple of takes.
- Another viewing of our ‘behind the scenes’ video for Memorabilia… a few snips, it’ll be done.
- Last but not least, created a cut-down version of the 11:30 presentation to send out to the same developers I couldn’t find pictures for. Fingers crossed they like it….
Catch-up with the Community team tomorrow; quite a bit to talk about.

You said what?
