What ho. So the illness, which started off as some sort of bizarre muscle pain and then just decided it was a cold after all, is now running its course. Lemsip. Strepsils. You know the drill. As my wife delights in pointing out, apparently I have some sort of Super Immune System when it comes to colds, so she has zero sympathy.
We’re busy at work. Very busy. Busy in that “So much to do, what next??” kind of way. It’s almost all to do with Leipzig. I’m teaching myself the intricacies of Final Cut Express by cutting together videos for the Bristol Comic Expo and UK Games Expo, which is teaching me how I’ll be able to hack together promotional videos for the show. At the same time, I’m dealing with our casting (almost done now) and helping the community guys with their crazy ambitious plans. As one of them put it today “How come we knew we wanted to go to Leipzig a year ago, and we’re still running around trying to get it finished a month out?” Ask me that again next Easter.
Anyway, this is preamble to say that posting will probably be light here for a while. Keep an eye on Twitter if you want semi-regular updates. (By the way don’t be offended if you ‘follow’ me on there and I don’t follow back. I tend to keep Twitter fairly one-way, otherwise it’s just more distractions throughout the day.)
More stuff coming. It’ll just be slow.
Yeah, so I managed the morning at work, but came home. If you’ve been paying attention I’ve been weirdly sick the last couple of days. Not enough to confine me to bed or whatever, but enough to keep me unfocused, feeling generally crap, and not able to focus enough to work well. Bleh.
So, anyway. Home. The weekend stretches out before me, probably full of being ill. But also: Read More »

Made it in on time, a little early in fact, then…
- Felt really woozy.
- Blew about six tissues of snot through my nose.
- Drank a litre of water in half an hour.
- Decided the cold had beaten me, and went home.
So not much of a productive day, really. I hate bloody colds.
February 18, 2008 – 10:09 pm
At this rate I’ll be writing posts about the future before too long.
- First thing, open up another sketch for our secret Draw the World Together sketchbook project. Is nice.
- Second thing, get the go-ahead from our IT Manager to order new desktops for me and Spaff. New iMacs, baby. One trip to Apple’s online store later…
- Mercilessly tease players on our official CoH forums about the upcoming Secret Event. This isn’t entirely because I just like to tease… we don’t have all the details yet so I can’t spill. It’s good to get people’s blood up though.
- Thanks to an eagle-eyed Forumite, suddenly find out our secret sketchbook project isn’t so secret now, as the Bristol Comic Expo has posted about it. D’oh! Their artist list includes Dave Gibbons, Doug Braithwaite, Ian Churchill and Mike Oeming. Well, at least one of them is in it right now.
- Book car and hotel for Secret Event scouting trip this weekend.
- Go forward, backward and then forward in time (playing City of Heroes! Zing!) during lunch as I do the Orobor.. Oobiedoo… Oreo… I’m too lazy to figure out the spelling of that. The time travel arc, the first one. I love the design of the ‘zone’ you get the missions in. Reminds me of good Kirby Marvel work. Also: want the jacket The Pilgrim wears (for my L34 Blaster).
- Intrepid Editor ‘Stick’ drops off the final cut, burned to DVD, of our behind-the-scenes Memorabilia video while I’m getting attacked by Freakshow (in City of Heroes! Zing!). Have half a conversation while I hit number keys. Thank you, Defiance, for saving my butt.
- After lunch, start to flag from cold.
- Half-finish a ‘corporate history of NCsoft Europe’ which is more dull than it sounds. No wait; it’s not.
- Have a chat with our Business Development Manager about the numbers on a project we want to do. I’m arguing for us to get less money. I am an ass, really.
- Provide false headlines to Spaff for his big pitch. Gotta book that in.
- Video Aero having his brand-new PC pulled apart, as Dell has managed to build it in a very special way so that the drive bay doesn’t open. Inwardly, thank the Lord I’ll be going all-Mac very soon.
- Leave early as cold is beating me up.
Blehhhh.
February 18, 2008 – 3:18 pm
Came in, because frankly I’d rather be ill at work than ill at home. That, and I have too much to do.
First thing that happened this morning: turn around to the guy behind me, he tells me I look like shit, I say I’m ill, and then he goes one better by saying he spent part of the previous week coughing up blood… and that he is allergic to practically all antibiotics.
Suddenly I feel like I should be sitting here in a hyperbaric chamber for his sake.
In the interest of living up to the category of this post, I should also mention that I’ve been on a continuous cycle of water-toilet-water all day, like I’m a human camel… and that I have a small pile of used tissues in front of me. From my nose.

I’m ill. Bleh.
Throat’s sore, nose is blocked, achy. I know I got it from my partner in crime, Spaff, so it’s virulent - he was starting to come down with it yesterday.
As my wife will tell you with much relish, I don’t get sick too often, and when I do, it’s usually not that serious - in other words, I’m back on my feet quickly. Whatever I’ve got here (some sort of cold) is made worse, though, by a lingering eye infection which just won’t quit and a couple of other long-term ailments afflicting this ageing body.
So yeah, as I sit here with a growing pile of tissues, having just swallowed down some horrendous ‘grapefruit seed extract’ concoction and blinking periodically as my eye weeps, I feel fairly sorry for myself.
Boo-hoo.
